The Inaugural Charlotte Chalk Art Festival (CCAF) features a friendly competition between local and regional chalk art artists ages 12 to 17 and 18+. All competitors must APPLY in advance.

This FREE two-day event will be held outside at 4237 Raleigh Street in Charlotte, NC. Festival-goers will have the opportunity to watch a colorful street art gallery come to life. A variety of music offerings, a couple of fun activities, food, beverage, and arts and crafts vendors will be on-hand for all to patronize including the Charlotte Art League artists studios.

Creative Canvas Productions, a Charlotte based video production and event management company, created the CCAF as a way to preserve an art form that dates back to 16th century Renaissance Italy. This was a time where an artist aka “madonnari” made a living off of coins received from passersby watching them recreate chalk paintings of the Madonna while traveling from from one village to another. Now that the Charlotte art scene is bustling, the founders of the festival felt this was a perfect time to ignite renewed interest in this ancient form of expression.
